The Dallas Stars picked Seattle Thunderbirds right wing Branden Troock in the fifth round, 134th overall, in the National Hockey League Entry Draft Saturday at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
Troock, from Edmonton, Alberta, appeared in 58 games in his first season with the T-Birds. He had 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points with 89 penalty minutes.
Troock was ranked No. 65 by NHL Central Scouting in their Final Rankings of players in their first year of eligibility for the 2012 NHL Draft. He moved up 25 spots in the Final Rankings from the Central Scouting Mid-Term Rankings.
"It is great to see Branden drafted," said T-Birds general manager Russ Farwell from the draft. "I believe he will prove his potential and talent to be on par with players taken much earlier."
Troock was a member of Team Canada at the Under-18 World Championships in Brno and Znojmo, Czech Republic, from April 12-22. Troock appeared in all seven of Canada's games. He registered an assist and had 10 penalty minutes as Team Canada won a bronze medal at the tournament.
