Auburn Riverside and Auburn Mountainview advance at state tourneys | Prep volleyball

The Auburn Riverside girls volleyball team put together a 1-1 record on the opening day of the Washington State 4A Volleyball tournament, Friday at St. Martin's Univesity in Lacy.

The Ravens (14-6 ) opened the tourney with a 3-0 loss to top-ranked Mead, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-15.

Forced into the consolation bracket Auburn Riverside responded with a 3-0 blanking of Monroe (14-5) with scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-16.

The win earns the Ravens the right to move on to day two of the tourney and a contest against No. 6-ranked Skyline (16-3). The game begins at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's.

ALSO: The Auburn Mountainview girls earned a chance to fight another day with a 1-1 record on day one of the state 3A tourney. The Lions (14-5) opened play with a 3-1 win over Stanwood (12-7) with scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-10 and 25-16. In the second round of the tourney Auburn Mountainview fell to No. 9 Prairie 3-0, with scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-18. The Lions will face Mount Spokane at 8 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's University.
