Auburn boys to battle Evergreen tonight in loser-out district game

February 15, 2013 · Updated 10:10 AM

The Auburn boys basketball team lost to South Kitsap 66-57 in the first round of the West Central District III/Southwest District IV Tournament on Wednesday at Auburn High School.

The Trojans (13-9) had a 35-34 first-half lead but were unable to fend off a 21-10 surge by the Wolves in the third quarter.

Marquise Prater and JJ Ruffin had 13 points apiece for the Trojans, with Rio Paul adding 10 points.

The loss relegates Auburn to the consolation bracket and a loser-out contest at 6 p.m. Friday against Evergreen (Vancouver) at Auburn Mountainview HIgh School.

A win sends the Trojans into an elimination game Saturday against either Jefferson or Battle Ground, with the winner earning a spot in a game to decide the No. 5 and No. 8 seeds to the state tournament.
