Auburn junior and girls tennis No. 1 singles player Lauren Thornquist is currently 1-1 at the Washington State 4A Girls Tennis Singles tournament in Richland.

Thornquist opened the tourney with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mead's Mackenzie Draper on Friday morning.

The win moved Thornquist on to the second round, where she lost 6-2, 6-0 to Skyview's Sammi Hampton, last year's state 4A singles champ.

The loss relegates Thornquist to the consolation bracket and a Friday evening loser-out match against Kamiak's Sally Park, who took fourth in state last season.
