Wrestlers prep for sub-regional tourneys | Prep wrestling

The Auburn, Auburn Mountainview and Auburn Riverside wrestling teams swing into sub-regional competition this weekend.

For the 3A Lions, the road to Mat Classic XXVI begins with the South Puget Sound League 3A tourney at 4 p.m. Friday. It continues at 10 a.m. Saturday at Auburn Mountainview.

The Lions – the 15th-ranked 3A team, according to – look to move several ranked wrestlers on to the regional tourney, among them: No. 2-ranked, 120-pound freshman Brahm Trujillo; No. 11-ranked, 126-pound sophomore Dylan Foley; No. 11-ranked, 132-pound sophomore Joey Santos; No. 9-ranked, 152-pound junior David Boone; No. 11-ranked, 170-pound junior Zach Jones; No. 8-ranked, 220-pound sophomore Antonio Corea; and No. 7-ranked, 285-pound senior Dakota Wier, a state competitor last season.

The West Central District III 3A Regional meet is Feb. 14-15 at Bonney Lake High School.

For the Trojans – the No. 14-ranked 4A squad in the state – and the Ravens, the road swings through the SPSL 4A Sub-Regional tourney Friday and Saturday at Kent-Meridian High School in Kent.

Auburn looks to move on several ranked wrestlers, including: 106-pound senior Freddie Pineda; No. 8-ranked, 120-pound sophomore Balteer Rana; No. 11-ranked, 145-pound junior Jarrett Bishop; No. 11-ranked, 195-pound senior Sam Lindsay; No. 7-ranked, 220-pound junior Mario Luveno; and No. 2-ranked,285-pound junior Jacob Apodaca.

For Auburn Riverside, No. 3-ranked, 285-pound senior Larkin Williams looks to make a return trip to the West Central District III 4A regionals Feb. 14-15 at Emerald Ridge High School.

The Washington State Mat Classic XXVI wrestling championships are Feb. 21-22 at the Tacoma Dome.
