Auburn Mountainview mounted a fourth-quarter comeback but fell short to fourth-ranked Sunnyside 61-45 in a 3A regional girls basketball playoff at Eisenhower High School in Yakima on Saturday.

The Lions finished the season 20-6, a win shy of reaching the eight-team state tournament.

The Lions found themselves in trouble early against the run-and-gun Grizzlies (21-3) and trailed by as much as 16 points in the second half.

A 14-3 run in the closing moments of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters, however, brought Auburn Mountainview back to life and within four points of Sunnyside at 45-41.

The Grizzlies however, found their stride again in the final minutes, shutting down the Lions' offense and posting a 16-4 run to finish the game.

The high-powered Grizzlies finished the game with 24-of-70 shooting, and the defense forced 22 Auburn Mountainview turnovers.

The Lions finished the game with 15-of-47 shooting. Maddie Taylor scored a team-high 12 points and snared seven rebounds. Ellie Alfrey finished the game with two points and 11 rebounds and Allison Hammer had eight points.

Jordan Rodriguez's 17 points and 16 rebounds led the Grizzlies. Vanessa Alvarez added 13 points and Emilee Maldonado had 11 points.
