Reporter staff

Auburn Mountainview's Joey Cassano and Herbie Good combined to shut out Decatur 2-0 in South Puget Sound League 3A action Thursday at Auburn Mountainview High School.

Cassano earned the win, giving up five hits in four innings of work. Good gave up just one hit, walking one and striking out one in three innings of relief.

Offensively, the Lions (9-4 league, 10-5 overall) needed just two hits and a sacrifice fly to beat the Gators (10-3, 13-5) and split the two-game series for the week. Decatur defeated visiting Auburn Mountainview 9-8 on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Ikaika Nahaku and Nate Zadow had an RBI apiece for the Lions.

Auburn Mountainview, defending 3A state champion, will receive either the No. 1 or 2 seed out of the SPSL 3A into the West Central Sub-distict 3A tournament, depending on the outcome of the Enumclaw (7-7, 10-9) versus Decatur game today.

A Decatur win gives the Lions the No. 2 seed and a 4 p.m. May 7 game at Auburn Mountainview against Seamount League No. 1 Kennedy Catholic (11-2, 12-3). An Enumclaw win and the Lions go in as the No. 1 seed with a 7 p.m. May 7 game at Auburn Mountainview against the SPSL No. 3 seed, either Bonney Lake (8-6, 12-7) or Peninsula (6-9, 6-12).

The West Central District 3/Southwest District 4 3A Tournament begins May 13 at Auburn Mountainview and Heidelberg Park in Tacoma.
