Memorial Day weekend trimmed to 3 days | Emerald Downs

For the Reporter

Director of Racing Bret Anderson has announced an adjustment to the live racing calendar on Memorial Day weekend.

Instead of a four-day race-week, Emerald Downs will offer live racing Saturday, May 24, Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26. Live racing on Friday, May 23, has been canceled, although the facility will remain open for simulcast racing.

According to Anderson, the move was made to preserve both the quality of racing and average field size, which through three weeks is nearly identical to last years 6.67 average field size.

The schedule change is expected to get Washington Horse Racing Commission approval Monday.

The 2014 meeting continues through Sept. 28.
