Jockey Seth Martinez made Mile Preview Day a record setting day at Emerald Downs.

Martinez won both stakes races on Sunday’s card and six of the 10 races overall – just the second rider in track history to take six in one day.

His collection included the $75,000 Mt. Rainier Handicap aboard Chhaya Dance, and the $75,000 Boeing Handicap aboard Shampoo.

The last jockey to pull a six-bagger was Kevin Radke on Sept. 2, 2002. Martinez became the eighth rider in track history to win two stakes on the same day.

In the Mt. Rainier, Chhaya Dance broke out of the No. 8 hole in the 1 1/8-mile test for trainer Mike Chambers and battled down the stretch to clinch the win. Martinez settled the 4-year-old son of A.P. Indy about five lengths behind the leader, Honour The West, as he set fractions of 22 3/5 seconds in the quarter mile and 46 2/5 at the half.

“I knew he was ready coming into the race,” Martinez said. “I was just trying to keep him in a good spot.”

Chhaya Dance, owned by Three Sisters Thoroughbreds, took the lead at the head of the stretch fighting a strong challenge from Wasserman, who was ridden by Jennifer Whitaker. Wasserman beat Chhaya Dance on July 6 in the Governor’s Handicap, but the chestnut colt hung on at the wire to score the victory in the Mt. Rainier by a head.

Chhaya Dance earned $41,250 for the win and paid $4.40, $2.60 and $2.20.

Wasserman rang up $4 and $3.20 for second and Honour the West brought in $4.20 for third.

The winner of the Mt. Rainier Handicap the last two years – Flamethrowintexan in 2006 and The Great Face in 2007 – went on to win the Grade III Longacres Mile.

This season the winner of the Mile earns a guaranteed spot in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on Oct. 25 at Santa Anita Park.

Martinez then helped Shampoo return to her winning form with an easy victory in the Boeing Handicap.

Sunday at Emerald Downs in the Boeing Handicap and the filly handed jockey Seth Martinez his second stakes victory on the card.

The Doris Harwood-trained 4-year-old daughter of Gulch ran off the pace in the 1 1/16-mile race as She’s All Silk set fractions of 22 3/5 at the quarter mile and 45 3/5 at the half.

“Doris told me to put her out there and get into the race early,” Martinez said.

Shampoo went to the lead in the far turn and by the head of the stretch was three lengths in front.

Shampoo found another gear coming down the lane and easily won finishing the race in 1:43 2/5. She earned $27,500 and paid $7.20, $4.20 and $6.60 for the win. Eclatante rang up $7 and $7.40 for second, and Pretty Maid paid $10.80 for third.
