• What: State-qualifying meet, also known as the Westside Classic.

• When: Saturday.

• Where: American Lake Golf Course, Tacoma.

• Time: Class 3A girls, 1 p.m.; Class 3A boys, 2:30 p.m.; Class 4A girls, 1:30 p.m.; Class 4A boys, 3 p.m. Racing begins at 10:30 a.m. with the Class 1B/2B girls.

• Who advances: Class 4A: The top 6 teams and top 30 individuals in both the boys and girls races will advance to state. Class 3A: The top 8 teams and top 40 individuals in the girls race qualify for state. The top 7 teams and top 35 individuals in the boys race will qualify.

• Defending champions: 4A boys team: Gig Harbor 60 points. 4A girls team: Gig Harbor 59. 4A boys individual: Miles Unterreiner, Gig Harbor, 15:14.7 (graduated). 4A girls individual: Kayla Evans, Bellarmine, 18:12.2 (graduated). 3A boys team: Camas 68. 3A boys individual: Julian-Blake Cowan, Auburn Riverside, 15:37.6 (running in 4A this season). 3A girls team: Capital 63. 3A girls individual: Amanda Wright, Capital, 19:18.6 (graduated).

• Teams to watch: 4A boys: Gig Harbor (ranked No. 2 in state this week), Tahoma (No. 4) and Auburn Riverside (No. 9). 4A girls: Gig Harbor (No. 1), Tahoma (No. 4) and Bellarmine Prep (No. 7). 3A boys: Lindbergh (No. 5), North Kitsap (No. 7) and Peninsula (No. 8). 3A girls: North Kitsap (No. 2), Columbia River (No. 3) and Enumclaw (No. 10).

• Individuals to watch: 4A boys: Julian-Blake Cowan, Auburn Riverside; Shane Moskowitz, Central Kitsap; Conner Peloquin, Gig Harbor; Kevin Rosaeen, Wilson. 4A girls: Clare Kane, Olympia; Erika Martin, Curtis. 3A boys: Michael Miller, Mount Rainier; Trevor Thompson, Lindbergh; Matt Miland, Lindbergh; David Lee, Peninsula; Chris Borg, Peninsula; Kyle Boe, Columbia River. 3A girls: Emily Wallen, Capital; Theresa Edwards, Bonney Lake; Sarah Reiter, Lindbergh; Carissa Gwerder, Enumclaw; Sarah Bobbe, Columbia River.

What’s next: The state meet is next Saturday, Nov. 8, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. Racing begins at 10 a.m. (wheelchair race at 9:30 a.m.). For local competitors, the Class 3A girls race is at 12:30 p.m.; the 4A girls go at 1 p.m.; the 3A boys at 2 p.m.; and the 4A boys at 2:30 p.m.

WEST CENTRAL DISTRICT GIRLS SWIMMING/DIVING

• What: District championship and state-qualifying event.

• When: Diving competition took place Thursday (results unavailable). The swimming preliminaries were Friday (results unavailable). The swimming finals are today at 4 p.m.

• Where: Rogers High School, Puyallup.

• Who advances: The top seven finishers in each event (all six finalists, plus the winner of the consolation finals) qualify for state, regardless of whether they meet a time standard. Anyone outside of the top seven who meets a state time standard also qualifies.

• Swimmers to watch: Chelsea Bailey, Kentlake (defending champion in 100 back); Amber Cratsenberg, Jefferson (freshman, SPSL champion in 50 free and 100 free); Trish Averill, Auburn (likely a top contender in 100 breaststroke; Trojans did not compete in last week’s SPSL meet), Eryn Murphy, Beamer (defending champion in 50 free); Briley Boggs, Decatur (defending champion in 100 butterfly); Rachael Kim, Beamer (SPSL champion in 200 IM and 100 back).

• What’s next: Competitors have two weeks off to prepare for state, which is set for Nov. 14-15 at the King County Aquatic Center. Class 4A divers have their preliminaries on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. The 4A swim prelims are Nov. 14 at 1:45 p.m., and the swim and dive finals are Nov. 15 at 10:15 a.m. The Class 4A finals will share their session with the 2A finals on Nov. 15.
