Auburn Riverside girls basketball stumbles against Moses Lake, loses 48-44 in state quarterfinals

Auburn Riverside’s quest for a 4A state title ended yesterday with a 48-44 quarterfinal loss to Moses Lake in the Washington State 4A Girls Basketball Championships at the Tacoma Dome.
The loss relegates Auburn Riverside (21-7) to the consolation bracket where the best finish they can hope for is fourth place.
Junior Mercedes Wetmore led the Ravens in scoring with 16 points. Nichole Jackson had 10 points and five steals. Kara Jenkins finished with nine rebounds and six points.
As a team, Auburn Riverside shot just 29.1 percent compared to Moses Lake’s 42.5 percent.
Moses Lake was led by Jordan Loera’s 21 points. Carly Noyes added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Chiefs.
The Ravens play Garfield (17-10) at 2 p.m. today in a loser-out contest. If they win, they will play the winner of the Pasco (26-1) versus Issaquah (18-7) game for fourth-and seventh-place.
