This past weekend, the Auburn Mountainview, Auburn and Auburn Riverside wrestling teams all participated in the North Idaho College Tri-State Wrestling Tournament in Couer d’Alene, featuring high school wrestlers from Montana, Washington and Idaho.
The Auburn Trojans, fueled by the first place finish of 171-pound junior Dylan Rutledge, finished 16th in the team finish with 78 points. Rutledge, who finished third in the 4A state meet last year, went 4-0 to win his weight class. Also placing for Auburn were senior Chris Young, who grabbed fourth-place at 215 with a 5-2 win-loss at the tourney, and Kelly Maughan who was third with a 6-1 record at 130 pounds.
The Auburn Mountainview wrestlers came away with an 18th place team finish with 69.50 points. The Lions were paced by T.J. Peretti’s fourth-place at 130 pounds, with a 4-2 record at the meet. Tyler King finished fifth in the 152-pound division with a 4-2 record, and Drew Dacey was sixth at 125 pounds.
Washington State teams dominated the meet, with four of the top-five teams hailing from the Evergreen State. Lake Stevens finished first with 191 points. Tahoma, from the South Puget Sound League North 4A, finished third with 165.50.
