BASEBALL

AUBURN PARKS PITCH, HIT & RUN

This event is for boys and girls ages 7-14, and is scheduled for Saturday, May 1, at 10 a.m. at Game Farm Park in Auburn. It is free. Boys and girls compete in separate divisions. Winners at the local level advance to sectionals. More information: Auburn Parks at (253) 931-3043.

AUBURN PARKS CUB CLINIC

This developmental program is for boys and girls entering grades 1-2 in the fall of 2010 and who reside in or attend a public or private school within the Auburn or Dieringer school district boundaries. It is machine-pitch and emphasizes fundamentals, sportsmanship, and fun. It is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 6-Aug. 10, and includes practices and games. The cost is $30 for Auburn residents and $38 for non-residents if registration is completed by May 26. Registration received after that date is $10 additional. AUBURN PARKS/CHALLENGER CAMP

AUBURN PARKS PRO BASEBALL CAMP

This camp, under the direction of former pro player and Atlanta Braves scout Steve Goucher, is for player ages 9-13, and is scheduled for July 6-9 at Game Farm Park in Auburn from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each day. It will offer instruction in throwing, hitting and fielding, and may included game and scrimmage situations. It is suited for aspiring to elite players. AUBURN PARKS T-BALL

This program is for pre-K and kindergarten boys and girls (must turn 5 by Aug. 31, 2010) who reside in or attend a public or private school within the Auburn or Dieringer school district boundaries. The emphasis is on fundamentals, sportsmanship and fun. It is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, July 7-Aug. 4, and includes practices and games. These camps are open to boys and girls ages 8-13, and will focus on developing and refining skills and techniques in a fast-paced and fun format. They are set for July 12-16 and Aub. 2-6 at Rainier Middle School in Auburn from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. The cost is $135 for Auburn residents and $169 for non-residents. SKILLS TRAINING

These classes are open to boys and girls in grades 2-8 who are serious about improving their skill level. Classes are set for Wednesdays, May 5-26 and June 2-23 at Rainier Middle School in Auburn. Players in grades 2-6 will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and players in grades 5-8 meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for Auburn residents and $63 for non-residents. AUBURN PARKS/CHALLENGER MULTI-SPORT CAMP

These camps are for boys and girls ages 5-13, and will focus on soccer, basketball (or flag football), and baseball or softball, with skill development, practices and plenty of games. Camps for ages 5-8 are June 28-July 2 and Aug. 16-20, both from 9 a.m.-noon each day at Sunset Park in Auburn, and July 12-16 from 9 a.m.-noon at Game Farm Park in Auburn. AUBURN PARKS YOUTH DERBY

This event is scheduled for Saturday, May 1, from 8:30 a.m.-noon at Mill Pond Park, 600 Oravetz Rd. S.E., across the street from Auburn Riverside High School. This camp, set for July 26-30 is open to boys and girls ages 8-13, and will focus on the individual skills of running with, passing and catching a football. It also will focus on teamwork and sportsmanship in a scrimmage environment. Camp times are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day at Auburn’s Game Farm Park. GENERAL

AUBURN PARKS COACHES, SPONSORS

VOLUNTEER COACHES and ASSISTANT COACHES are need for various Auburn Parks programs. All coaches are certified through the National Youth Sport Coaches Association and must clear a Washington State Patrol background check.

SPONSORS are needed for the teams that will take part in Auburn Parks leagues in various sports. The team sponsorship fee is $195, with that business having its name and logo on the T-shirt uniform. GOLF

AUBURN PARKS/SKYHAWKS BEGINNING CAMP

This camp is for boys and girls ages 4-8, and is scheduled for Aug. 9-13 at Les Gove Park in Auburn. Campers will use plastic clubs with oversized heads, and miniature tennis balls to help them develop the skill of hitting the ball and learn other basics. SMART START GOLF

This is a developmental, introductory program for boys and girls ages 5-9, and it is a parent-participation program for youngsters who have never played golf. The program takes place at Lakeland Hills Park in Auburn. Sessions for players ages 5-6 are set for Thursdays, July 1-22, from 5:30-6:15 p.m., or Saturdays, July 3-31, from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Sessions for players ages 7-9 are set for Thursdays, July 1-22, from 6:30-7:15 p.m., or Saturdays, July 10-31, from 12:30-1:15 p.m. The cost for any of the sessions is $20 for Auburn residents and $25 for non-residents. AUBURN PARKS LESSONS

These lessons are for boys and girls, ages 9-14, at Auburn Golf Course, 29630 Green River Road S.E. Lessons take place on a Monday-through-Thursday basis, June 28-July 1 and July 12-15 from 9 a.m.-10 a.m., and July 12-15 from 10-11 a.m. The cost is $20 for Auburn residents and $25 for non-residents. GYMNASTICS

SPRING BREAK CAMP

This camp for boys and girls ages 6-12 is being offered April 5-7 by Harts Gymnastics Center in Auburn from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. In addition to gymnastics training, it includes crafts, an obstacle course, and Seaweed the inflatable. The cost is $100 for Auburn residents and $125 for non-residents. HOCKEY

BEGINNERS PROGRAM

The Sno-King Junior Thunderbirds will offer a year-round, beginners-level program for boys and girls ages 5-10. No skating experience is necessary. The program will be on Saturdays at Castle Ice in the Renton Highlands, or at Kingsgate Ice Arena in Kirkland. Players are welcome to join at any time. ICE SKATING

LEARN TO SKATE CLASSES

An eight-week series with group and private lessons for boys, girls and adults is being offered at KENT VALLEY ICE CENTRE. Instruction is based on criteria set forth by the Ice Skating Institute. Skating classes are a solid starting point for those interested in figure skating or hockey. The facility is located at 6015 S. 240th St. in Kent. AUBURN PARKS CAMPS

These camps are for boys and girls ages 6-12. The first one is a BEGINNING CAMP July 12-16 at Sunset Park in Auburn, and will focus on basic techniques. Skaters ages 6-9 will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. or 12:30-2 p.m.; skaters ages 10-12 will meet from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The cost is $40 for Auburn residents and $50 for non-residents. A CONTINUING CAMP will focus on further developing skills at the Brannan Bowl in Auburn’s Brannan Park from July 19-23. Skaters ages 6-9 will meet from 9-10:30 a.m. or 12:30-2 p.m.; skaters ages 10-12 will meet from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The cost is $40 for Auburn residents and $50 for non-residents. SOCCER

AUBURN PARKS/BRITISH SOCCER CAMPS

These camps are for boys and girls ages 5-13. Younger players will focus on the basics, while more advanced players will work to fine-tune their skills and incorporate them into game situations. Each camper will be encouraged to play every position. All camps are at Auburn’s Game Farm Park. Dates, times and costs are July 6-9 (ages 6-14, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $112 Auburn residents/$140 non-residents, and ages 5-13, from 9 a.m.-noon, $80 Auburn residents/$100 non-residents), July 19-23 and Aug. 9-13 (ages 5-13 from 9 a.m.-noon, $95 Auburn residents/$119 non-residents, and ages 8-13 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $135 Auburn residents/$169 non-residents). AUBURN PARKS DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM

This is a fall developmental program for boys and girls in grades K-8 and for coaches. All games will be played in the Auburn area, primarily on Saturdays, with the possibility of one or two weeknight games. The season runs Sept. 24-Nov. 13 with a clinic and the start of practice on Sept. 11 at Game Farm Park. Registration fees, due by Aug. 6, are $35 Auburn residents/$42 non-residents for grades K-1; $45 Auburn residents/$54 non-residents for grades 2-3 and 4-5; and $50 Auburn residents/$60 non-residents for grades 6-8. SWIMMING

AUBURN POOL

The pool, located adjacent to Auburn High School at 516 4th St. N.E. offers several programs. PUBLIC SWIMS are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-8 p.m., Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. ($3 for adults, $2.50 for children and seniors, or $9 for a family). LAP SWIMS are offered Monday through Friday from 6-7:30 a.m. and noon-1 p.m.; Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8-9 p.m. ($4 adults, $3.50 children and seniors), and Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. ($1 for everyone). LESSONS are offered on a Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday basis. Costs are $6 per lesson for ages 3-6; $5 per lesson for ages 6-14. TENNIS

AUBURN PARKS CAMP

TENNIS BLOCK PARTY

This free event is scheduled for Sunday, May 23, from 1-3 p.m. at the Auburn High School tennis courts, located on the south side of the school adjacent to the baseball diamond. AUBURN PARKS TENNIS LEAGUE

This is a coed instructional team sport program for boys and girls who will be entering grades K-5, with emphasis on fundamentals, sportsmanship and fun. It includes practices and matches. It will run Mondays and Wednesdays, June 28-Aug. 11, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $30 for Auburn residents and $38 for non-residents if paid and registered by May 26, with an ADDITIONAL $10 fee after that date. AUBURN PARKS LESSONS

This program is for boys and girls ages 8-13, with emphasis on forehand, backhand, and serving. It will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 25-June 17 (5:30-6:30 p.m.), June 29-July 22 (4:30-5:30 p.m. and 5:30-6;30 p.m.), and Aug. 5-31 (4:30-5:30 p.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m.) at the Auburn High tennis courts on the Main Street side of the campus. The instructor is Lynne Cogger. The cost is $35 for Auburn residents and $44 for non-residents. Players must supply their own racket and one unopened can of tennis balls. QUICK START TENNIS

This program is designed to bring young players ages 5-10 into the sport by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. The program will run on Wednesdays, April 28-May 19, at Olympic Middle School in Auburn, with ages 5-7 meeting from 5:30-6:15 p.m., and ages 8-10 meeting from 6:30-7:15 p.m. Additional sessions for players ages 5-7 are set for Mondays, May 24-June 21, June 28-July 19 and Aug. 2-23, and Wednesdays, May 26-June 16, June 30-July 21, and Aug. 4-25, all from 5:30-6:15 p.m. The cost is $30 for Auburn residents and $38 for non-residents. It is scheduled for Monday through Thursday, May 31-July 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Auburn, Auburn Riverside and Auburn Mountainview high schools.
