Eighth-ranked 3A Auburn Mountainview fell shy of toppling undefeated Puyallup, the top-ranked 4A powerhouse, in the High School Baseball Classic, 9-8, Saturday at Safeco Field.

The No. 8-ranked 3A Auburn Mountainview baseball squad crushed Lakes 13-3 on Friday. The defending state champ Lions were led by Brandon Mozzone's five-innings of work on the mound. Mozzone earned the win with a two-hit, 10 strikeout performance.

The Auburn Riverside girls had no trouble swinging past Federal Way 5-0 in South Puget Sound League Central 4A play Friday at Federal Way. Raven No. 1 singles player Kaitlyn Clugston defeated Stephanie Peraza 6-3, 6-3 with teammate and No. 2 singles player Diana Yakimchuck beating Sydney Truong 6-2, 6-2.
