Auburn Riverside’s Sutrick, Williams set the pace in all-city cross country

Lions’ Goedde captures the girls’ 5,000

Auburn Riverside’s Marcus Sutrick and Dustin Williams – two of the district’s top runners – darted to a one-two finish at the all-city cross country meet at Game Farm Park on Wednesday.

Sutrick, a junior, covered the 5,000-meter course in a season-best 17 minutes, 4.9 seconds, followed closely by Williams, a senior, in 17:06.7, also a season best.

The Ravens had five runners finish in the race’s top seven. Noah Elwell (17:35.3), Andres Madrigal (17:55.6) and Easton Lane (17:58.3) came in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

A pair of Auburn Mountainview juniors – Austin Cays (17:29.8) and Nick Wolfe (17:31.2) – finished third and fourth. Teammates Carson Porter-Keese (18:12.1) and Jeremiah Bartlett (18:13.1) were eighth and ninth.

Top Auburn runner was Aidan Oehler, a senior, who finish 10th in a time of 18:23.1.

For the girls, Auburn Mountainview’s state-class Samantha Goedde won in a season-best 22:09.1. Teammates Josie Austin, a sophomore, was second (22:25.4) and junior Clara Ramsdell was third (22:34.0).

Goedde also won the all-city race in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Auburn Riverside’s pack was led by Leah Kerbs, who finished fourth (22:37.1), followed by freshmen Emma Lane (22:38.9) and Jasmin Muneton (22:52.6) and seniors Sarah Davis (22:54.8) and Destany Abellera (22:59.5).

Freshman Claire Casperson led Auburn with a ninth-place finish (23:52.4), followed by Kara Lee, another freshman, in 24:11.6 and junior Katherine Johnson (24:30).
