Dustin’s Passion prevails in Saturday’s feature | Emerald Downs

Dustin’s Passion broke a 16-race losing streak with a hard-earned nose victory over One More Orman in Saturday’s $9,000 Muckleshoot Casino Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Jose Zunino, Dustin’s Passion ran six furlongs in 1:08.91 and paid $16.20, $5.60 and $3.40. Kenneth Elison, saddling his first winner at Emerald Downs, is the trainer and co-owner with Vicky Jo Elison.

One More Orman, the 6-to-5 betting favorite, finished second but was disqualified and placed fifth for impeding Ace On the River in deep stretch.

Caddyshack Cat, ridden by Eswan Flores, was promoted from third to second and paid $6.40 and $3.40, while Ace On the River, Kevin Orozco riding, was moved from fourth to third and paid $3 to show.

A 7-year-old Kentucky-bred, Dustin’s Passion has a 3-4-8 record in 21 career starts with earnings of $74,908. The Northern Afleet gelding’s last previous win, however, was February 14, 2015, at Oaklawn Park. He’d had some close calls this year at Emerald Downs, compiling a second, two thirds and a fourth prior to Saturday.

Caddyshack Cat appeared ready to lead gate-to-wire, setting fractions of :21.96, :44.27 and :56.44, was two lengths clear past mid-stretch and weakened slightly late.

Trainer Blaine Wright continues to win everything in sight, saddling two more winners Saturday and opening a 26-16 over Frank Lucarelli and Charles Essex atop the trainers’ standings.
