T-Birds put the freeze on Ice at the Red Lion preseason tourney
Six different Seattle Thunderbirds scored a goal Sept. 10 to help lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 6-2 victory over the Kootenay Ice in the T-Birds second game at the Red Lion Hotels' Preseason Tournament at Toyota Center in Kennewick.
The T-Birds scored three goals in the first period. Brendan Troock scored at 3:29 of the first off assists from Brenden Dillon and Dave Sutter. Seattle then scored two goals in 24 seconds when Chance Lund lit the lamp at 11:09 and Marcel Noebels scored at 11:33. Burke Gallimore and Dillon assisted on Lund's goal and Luke Lockhart and Charles Wells has the assists on Noebels' goal.
The T-Birds scored two shorthanded goals in the second period to take a 5-0 lead after 40 minutes. Brendan Rouse scored the first shorthanded goal at 4:42 of the period. Gallimore had the only assist. Lockhart had the second shorthanded goal, at 19:37 of the period, with Sutter having the only assist.
Kootenay scored two goals in under a minute in the middle of the third period. Joe Antilla scored at 8:39 and Erik Benoit scored at 9:31.
Connor Sanvido extended the lead to four goals when he scored at 11:41 of the third. Rouse and Dillon were credited with assists. This was Sanvido's third goal in two games at the tournament.
The T-Birds outshot Kootenay 36-22 in the game.
Calvin Pickard played 60 minutes in net for Seattle and made 20 saves on 20 shots.
Kootenay played two goalies in the game. Todd Mathews started and played 29 minutes. He made 15 saves on 19 shots. Mackenzie Skapski replaced Mathews and finished with 15 saves on 17 shots.
The T-Birds will open the regular season against the Everett Silvertips on Friday, September 24 at Comcast Arena in Everett at 7:35pm. The T-Birds will hold their home opener on Saturday, September 25 at 7:05p.m. against long time rival, the Portland Winterhawks. The T-Birds will wrap up their opening weekend in Kennewick against the Tri-City Americans on Sunday, September 26, at 5p.m. at the Toyota Center.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2010-11 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
