Giants climb past T-Birds - Lockhart, Noebels score in 6-2 loss
The Vancouver Giants defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-2 Feb. 18 at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver.
Vancouver (34-20-1-4) took 1-0 lead at 7:24 of the first period on a goal from Jordan Martinook. Andrej Stastny and Teal Burns had the assists.
The Giants outshot the T-Birds 9-4 in the first period.
Brendan Rowinski scored 17 seconds into the second period to give the Giants a 2-0 lead. Brendan Gallagher had the only assist on the goal.
Vancouver went in front 3-0 at 9:02 of the second when Nathan Burns scored. David Musil and Darren Bestland were credited with the assists.
Seattle (20-29-4-5) got on the board at 11:23 of the second period on a crisp up-ice rush led by Brenden Dillon. Dillon carried the puck from behind the Seattle net up the ice, across the red line and then passed the puck to Brendan Rouse on the blue line. Dillon kept skating, took a pass back from Rouse and skated into the left circle with Luke Lockhart charging down the slot. Dillon made a hard pass across the slot to Lockhart. Lockhart, a right hand shot, redirected the pass under Vancouver goalie Mark Segal.
Marcel Noebels cut the Giants lead to one goal at 16:40 of the second period with an unassisted goal. Noebels took control of a loose puck just inside the Seattle zone and headed up ice. Noebels carried the puck across the Vancouver blue line and with a defenseman in front of him put a wrist shot on goal. Noebels shot beat Segal on the stick side for his 21st goal of the year.
Vancouver outshot Seattle 13-9 in the second period and led 22-13 in total shots after two periods.
Martinook scored at 1:57 of the third period to give the Giants a two-goal lead. Teal Burns and Bestland had the assists.
Vancouver took the three-goal lead back at 5:51 of the third on the second goal of the night by Nathan Burns. Stastny and Teal Burns were credited with the assists.
Zach Hodder rounded out the scoring for Vancouver at 10:06 of the third period. Michael Burns and Martinook had the assists.
Vancouver outshot Seattle15-6 in the third period and 37-19 in the game.
Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard stopped 31 of 37 shots and his record is now 20-27-3-5.
Segal made 17 saves on 19 shots and his record is now 24-11-1-3.
The T-Birds will face the Chilliwack Bruins on Sunday at ShoWare Center at 5:05 p.m.
