Thunderbirds take Spokane Chiefs in OT Dec. 18

Charles Wells scored off a rebound with 23 seconds left in overtime Friday night to give the Seattle Thunderbirds a 3-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs at Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane.

Defenseman Jeremy Schappert carried the puck into the right circle in the Chiefs zone. Schappert held the puck momentarily and then put a shot on goal that Spokane goalie James Reid kicked out into the slot. Wells was trailing the play and got the rebound and put it back quickly to give Seattle the win. Brenden Dillon had the second assist on Wells' ninth goal of the year.

Spokane (21-10-3-0) took a 1-0 lead at 16:55 of the first period on a goal by Mitch Wahl. Kenton Miller and Tanner Mort had assists on the goal.

The Chiefs outshot the T-Birds 12-8 in the first period.

Seattle (13-19-1-3) got on the board at 5:02 of the second period on an unassisted goal by Mikhail Sentyurin. It was Sentyurin's second goal of the year.

Spokane outshot Seattle 8-6 in the second period and led 20-14 in total shots after two periods.

The T-Birds went in front 2-1 at 3:23 of the third period. Defenseman Erik Fleming sent the puck up the center of the ice to Lindsay Nielsen. Nielsen tapped the puck to Prab Rai who came down the left side. At the top of left circle Rai put a slap shot on goal. Reid tried to catch the shot but the puck went over the blocker for his 21st goal of the year.

Anthony Bardaro scored at 11:06 of the third to tie the game 2-2. Brady Brassart and Corbin Baldwin had the assists.

Seattle outshot Spokane 11-5 in the third period and both teams finished regulation with 25 shots on goal.

Seattle outshot Spokane 5-0 in overtime and 30-25 in the game.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 23 saves on 25 shots and his record is now 11-15-1-3.

Reid made 27 saves on 30 shots and his record is now 18-6-3-0.

The T-Birds are back in action on Saturday at ShoWare Center when they take on the Swift Current Broncos at 7:05 p.m.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2009-10 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
