Chilliwack nips Thunderbirds in OT, 3-2

The Chilliwack Bruins defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 in overtime Sunday night at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

Brandon Manning scored the game-winning goal at 1:23 of overtime. Ryan Howse and Kevin Sundher had the assists.

Both teams had one shot on goal in the overtime and the Bruins finished with a 51-20 advantage in total shots.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 48 saves on 51 shots and his record is now 11-15-2-4.

Manning put the Bruins in front 1-0 at 15:04 of the first period on a power-play goal. Jesse Craige and Sundher had the assists.

Seattle (13-19-2-4) tied the game 1-1 at 16:48 of the first period on a goal by Colin Jacobs. Mikhail Sentyurin put a shot on goal with Jacobs in front of Chilliwack goalie Lucas Gore. Jacobs pounded the rebound past Gore for his fifth goal of the year.

Chilliwack (16-17-1-5) outshot Seattle 24-6 in the first period.

The T-Birds took a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal by Prab Rai at 9:33 of the second period. Jeremy Schappert launched a slap shot from the left point that Gore stopped. The puck rebounded into the crease where Lindsay Nielsen slapped at it. Gore stopped Nielsen's shot and the puck rebounded to the goalie's left and behind the goal line. Rai brought the puck in front of the Chilliwack goal with his backhand and then snapped the puck quickly past a sprawling Gore.

The Bruins outshot the T-Birds 12-10 in the second period and led 36-16 in total shots after two periods.

Travis Belohrad scored at 15:47 of the third period to tie the game 2-2 for the Bruins. Manning and Shayne Neigum had the assists on the goal.

Chilliwack outshot Seattle 14-3 in the third period.

Gore stopped 18 of 20 shots and his record is now 7-7-1-0.

The T-Birds play at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, against the Saskatoon Blades at the ShoWare Center.

T-Birds single game tickets are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and at noon Sunday on game days.
