AUBURN PITCH, HIT & RUN

This free competition, a local segment of the nationwide event for boys and girls ages 7-14 is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at Game Farm Park beginning at 10 a.m. (Competitors must be 14 or under as of July 14, 2008.) Winners in various age and gender groups can advance through four levels of competition, including a team championship event at Safeco Field, and the national finals at the Major League All-Star Game. Judging will be based on accuracy, distance and speed for pitching, hitting and running. No pre-registration is needed. BASKETBALL

KENTLAKE BOYS HOOP CAMP

This camp for players who will be entering grades 2-9 is scheduled for June 24-27 at Kentlake High School, 21401 S.E. 300th St. It will be directed by Kentlake coaches Ron Charrier and Jeff Martin. The cost is $95 if registered by June 1, and $100 thereafter, and includes a camp T-shirt and basketball. In addition to individual and group instruction, campers will participate in 5-on-5 games, hot-shot competition, free throw contests and other activities. GRACE BASKETBALL CAMP

BOAT RACING

KENT DRAGON BOAT ASSOCIATION

The association is inviting anyone interested in paddling a 48-foot dragon boat to Lake Meridian in Kent on Saturdays (before 8 a.m.) and Tuesdays (6 p.m.) through mid October. CHEERLEADING

SOUTH ELITE ALL-STAR TRYOUTS

This organization, which practices at Kentwood High School and is the first team in the state to win a bid to the World Cheerleading Championships, will conduct tryouts in May for both new and experienced cheerleaders. Tryout dates are May 13 for Juniors, Youth and Minis (age 14 and under), from 6-8 p.m.; and on May 15 or Seniors (age 18 and under) of all levels, also from 6-8 p.m. South Elite also has new “Blue” level teams that offer a more affordable way to participate in all-star cheer. PUGET SOUND FOOTBALL CAMP

This camp is for players who will be entering grades 4-9 in the fall. It is scheduled for June 30-July 3 at French Field on the campus of Kent-Meridian High School. It is a non-contact camp and runs from 9 a.m.-noon each day. It will be directed by Kentridge High head coach Marty Osborn, and the camp staff will include coaches from Kentridge and other area high schools and junior highs, as well as current Kentridge seniors and former players now in college. KENTWOOD HS TOURNAMENT

A tournament to benefit the Kentwood High baseball program is scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at 8 a.m. at Druids Glenn Golf Course. The format is Mexican scramble. The cost is $100, and includes greens fees, cart, range balls, prizes and an auction/spaghetti dinner event. For those wishing to attend just the dinner, which begins at 5 p.m., the cost is $5 per person, or $20 per family. COED AND WOMEN’S CLASSES

PADI scuba classes will be offered May through October by GirlDiver Instruction of Auburn. The course includes class, pool and open-water dives conducted in Puget Sound. RAVENS SUMMER TEAM

Registration is open to boys and girls ages 8-18, with all ability levels welcome. The team practices on the courts at Auburn Riverside High School beginning June 26, and is open to players from throughout the region. Match play continues through July. Players receive 10 hours of instruction, a team T-shirt, league matches, and a multi-level league tournament. Sign-up forms are available in the main office at Auburn Riverside, 501 Oravetz Road.
