The Auburn Trojans inched closer toward the postseason with a 71-0 non-league win over South Puget Sound League 4A South Decatur last Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

The Trojans (6-0 SPSL North, 7-0 overall) piled up five touchdowns in the first quarter, with senior Chris Young opening the scoring frenzy by blocking a punt and recovering it in the end zone for a touchdown. Young would add a 47-yard rushing touchdown in the contest.

Junior Austin Embody led Auburn runners with three touchdowns, including a 77-yard run for a TD in the second quarter. Embody finished with 131 yards on the ground, with Young amassing 107 rushing yards. Junior Alphonse Wade finished with 117 yards and two touchdown runs, including a 66-yard scamper.

Senior quarterback Marshall Klontz also got in on the action with a 3-yard TD run, and backup running backs Josh Knight and Trey Grant had a rushing touchdown each. As a team, the Trojans ran for 455 yards total.

Senior linebacker Arturo Alvarado added a safety.

The Trojans will travel to Tahoma (3-4, 3-4) for a 7 p.m. contest this Friday.

ALSO: Auburn Riverside fell to 2-4 in the SPSL North with a 28-0 loss to Kentridge (5-1, 5-2) this past Friday at French Field. Quarterback John Hakala struggled, completing 8-of-32 passes. The Ravens running game struggled as well, earning just 63 yards as a team. Connor Bjornstad led the team with 45 yards on 10 carries. Grad also had three catches for 23 yards. Riverside will host Kentlake (3-3, 3-4) at 7 p.m. this Saturday at Auburn Memorial Stadium. …

Auburn Mountainview (2-5, 2-5) also failed to earn a league win, falling 21-0 to Sumner (1-5, 1-6)in SPSL 3A play this past Friday at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

Sophomore quarterback Kingston Kuehner got his first taste of action this season, throwing for 43 yards on 5-of-11 passing. Kuehner, who came in for senior Cody McNeil who suffered a hip pointer at the end of the first quarter, also ran six times for 16 yards. Sophomore Skyler White carred the ball 13 times for 61 yards and senior Vince Wagner had 38 yards on 13 carries.

Wagner also led the team in tackles with five. Sophomore Victor Korchemniy had four tackles and a sack, as did senior Sam Brown.

White finished with four tackles. The Lions will host No. 1 ranked Lakes (6-0, 7-0) at 7 p.m. this Friday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
