Highline Community College is expanding “green” education and business opportunities in South King County with a nearly $158,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration.

“This grant promotes sustainability in our communities and helps position our students and small business clients for the new ‘green’ economy,” said Highline’s Economic Development Programs Coordinator James Peyton.

“It gives Highline the opportunity to identify sustainable business opportunities in South King County and to develop training to help small businesses in our area take advantage of those opportunities,” Peyton said.

The project’s goal is to help in the economic recovery and create jobs and long-term economic growth in South King County.

The grant will give Highline the opportunity to develop curriculum related to sustainability in various departments across campus.

In addition, the grant funds the development of small business training related to sustainability and “green” business opportunities.
