Tribe’s fireworks decision backfires

I am disappointed to hear that the Muckleshoot Tribe refused to cooperate in choosing not to do fireworks. Since they are a part of Auburn, it would seem to be a community service to their neighbors, given the noise and traffic, to do this as a goodwill demonstration, showing respect and consideration to the citizens of Auburn who voted not to have fireworks.
After explaining to a 10-year-old why we can’t – because now most people are not responsible enough with a device that can destroy other people’s property and homes – they don’t understand the double standard.
I understand it is a moneymaking business for the tribe, but they also have a responsibility to the community they live in. I would hope the tribe would in fairness take a second look at their decision and set an example for the children in Auburn.
So much emphasis is placed on this fireworks subject when the real story about the Fourth of July and why we celebrate it is ignored. Let us try to teach our children the real story behind the Fourth and focus on what the holiday is all about.
