Auburn Riverside distance runner Rachel Atwood has signed a national letter of intent to attend and run for Montana State University next year.

Atwood has made three appearances at the state 4A cross country championship, including a seventh-place finish at the 2011 meet as a senior.

On the track, Atwood is a two-time participant at the state 1,600- and 3,200-meter races.

“Rachel will be coming to Montana State, as a signee, with two of the fastest times in the 3,200 (10:56) and the 1,600 (5:04) in program history,” said Dale Kennedy, Montana State track and field coach. “We’ve never signed anyone with this high a caliber, and it goes to show the kind of running talent she’ll give us right away.”
