Chris Cagle brings his unique sound to Auburn for the annual Rotary Club Scholarship Show.

Country music artist Chris Cagle will perform at the 29th annual Scholarship Show presented by KMPS 94.1 and the Rotary Club of Auburn on May 12.

Rae Solomon will open the show at 8 p.m. at the Auburn Performing Arts Center, 700 E. Main St.

From 2000-2008, Cagle released a catalog of hits that resulted in a successful career. Cagle’s musical character and burning ambition never wavered but today, Cagle’s personal perspective has mellowed. This year’s forthcoming album is, in more ways than one, a new lease on life.

His first album, 2000’s Play It Loud, fared well enough, producing the country chart hit “Laredo,” but after a career stall, Cagle switched record labels. In 2003, he returned with Chris Cagle and made a huge splash with the humorous song “Chicks Dig It.” With a rousing intro of, “Hey y’all, watch this,” “Chicks Dig It” was an instant hit on the country charts, and Cagle’s career seemed back on track. The year 2005 saw the release of Anywhere But Here, and in 2008 he released My Life’s Been a Country Song.

Tickets are $35 and available through Ticketmaster.
