Valley Regional Fire Fighters look to raise $5,000 for MDA

Local 1352 Valley Regional Fire Fighters will be out in the streets Friday with a goal of raising $5,000 as they kick off their annual Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Firefighters will be at the intersection of 15th Street Southwest and Supermall Drive (off Highway 167) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., filling their boots with donations from motorists.

Last year, the Valley Regional Fire and Emergency Services Department raised more than $2,500 for MDA, adding to the International Association of Fire Fighters’ (IAFF) national total of more than $28 million. Firefighters have been volunteering their time and boots to help children and adults with 43 muscle-deteriorating diseases since 1954.

Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign support life-saving research and services to families in King County. These services include MDA Summer Camp in Lake Stevens, genetic counseling, clinics and local support groups.

MDA is the non-profit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
