Disgusting experience

Published 2:17 pm Wednesday, June 12, 2013

I am a volunteer with the AVCA (Auburn Valley Creative Arts) group at the Auburn Farmers Market. Last Sunday at the market I saw a small child struggling, trying to open the door to get out (of the portable toilet). I let the small child out.

As I entered the public restroom, I was reminded of a foul stench from the outhouse on a farm I lived on as a young child. The lighting is poor, the walls are a steel gray design, probably to hide the many bugs and germs lurking.

There were seat covers on the wall that came out in little pieces. Several layers of tissues were next to the john. A black bug is tied to the wall for trash, I think. The experience was totally disgusting.

I have lived in Auburn for 19 years. I have made a commitment to be at the market this summer, and I will be there. But I wouldn’t go back there if I was visiting the market as a potential customer and used the bathroom.
