Please remove bumpy inconveniences

Recent road construction on 8th Street Northeast Auburn has removed the many speed bumps there. Please do not replace them.
All over town we now see speed bumps to control the speed of those who break the law. They are a great inconvenience to the many law-abiding citizens of our city and do nothing to catch or penalize speeders.
In addition, the many yellow signs warning us of these speed bumps are an eyesore. They certainly do nothing to enhance the looks of our city. Compare this to the wonderful scene of trees planted along the recently opened M Street underpass.
At one time Auburn was called “Little Detroit of the West” (an epiphany). Let us not change this to the “Little Speed Bump City of the West.”
The spread of powerful cameras capable of reading license plates has been in use in many countries for years. Much of the money for installing them may come from federal grants.
Invasion of privacy you say? There are many safeguards. Besides we are dealing with only minor offenses with possible serious consequences.
