Pondelick’s changing alliances

As a lifetime resident and longtime business owner in Auburn, I cannot help but respond to Mr. Pondelick”s letter (“Backus is my choice to lead Auburn”, Auburn Reporter, Sept. 6).
He spent months campaigning on the platform that Auburn is broken and needs to be fixed. He came to my business many times and repeatedly stated that voting for his opponent, Nancy Backus, would only perpetuate this problem. Now he does some soul searching and decides that Auburn doesn’t need to be fixed?
Knowing that he has spoken at length with both of the other candidates prior to the primary, you think maybe he would have taken time to evaluate his choices before running for mayor.
I wonder how much money the taxpayers would have saved if Mr. Pondelick had thought about his alliances earlier and saved us the cost of a mayoral primary. Seems like a huge waste.
It’s ironic that he now supports an administration that is famous for the wasting of Auburn taxpayers’ money. I hope his supporters also take some time to reflect on their choice for mayor.
One more thought. I have to wonder if Mr. Pondelick is expecting some personal benefit to his choice to now support the same administration he was so against just a few weeks ago.
