Favors, special deals at City Hall?

Are you kidding me? I just finished reading John Pinsker’s letter to the Reporter (“Something fishy is going on”, Sept. 20), in which I learned that Scot Pondelick was appointed to the Auburn Planning Committee after dropping his mayoral campaign and endorsing Nancy Backus.

What a blatant back room political kickback.

Is this what we can expect more of with a Backus administration – favors and special deals? It’s the worst of what happens in the other Washington, but apparently our City government is so used to it, they don’t even notice the stink. In fact, Councilmember Bill Peloza even celebrates, “Scot, we got you!”

Is this a government of the people or a country club? Sounds like the latter, complete with its own golf course, paid for by you and me.

Pinsker is right, something does smell in Auburn. We’re a town of potholes and paybacks – but no municipal court. We’re asked to pay more taxes if we want serviceable roads and safe streets, while funding is set aside for golf courses, community centers and other discretionary spending. It should be the other way around.

I will vote for John Partridge. He may not be a member of the “Auburn Country Club” but that’s just what will “Fix Auburn.”
