Auburn Soroptimist members are busy working to keep women and children warm this winter, and teens fed in their community.

Soroptimist International of Auburn is collaborating with the Wells Fargo Women’s Team Member Network and other Puget Sound Area Soroptimist clubs to collect new and gently used coats and jackets for local homeless women and girls.

All donated coats will be donated to the Jubilee Women’s Center and the Salvation Army for distribution to local people in need. If you would like to donate a new or gently used coat to assist in this effort, please email info@siauburn.org and a Soroptimist will make arrangements to collect your donations.

Members are also taking on the challenge of helping to feed homeless teens in Auburn through a partnership with Auburn Youth Resources and Seattle-based Teen Feed. Each month the group sponsors a dinner and takes care of everything from gathering donations of money and food, to preparing and serving the meal and cleaning up afterward. An average of 25-35 teenagers and children are fed during these dinners.

“I found Teen Feed last year while attending the Auburn Area Chamber’s South Sound Leadership Institute, and now not a month goes by that I don’t strive to be involved,” said Tonya Clark, president of Soroptimist International of Auburn. “I love sharing this experience with my fellow club members and anyone else who is willing to do dishes.”
