Seattle Swedish Community Scholarship’s mission is to provide college scholarships. The program began in 1968, originally created within the Swedish Club of Seattle.
The mission widened its scope, and in 1984, Seattle Swedish Community Scholarships became its own entity as a 501c3 nonprofit.
Today the program offers high school seniors residing in King County a chance to compete for college scholarships based on high school record, ACT or SAT test scores, extracurricular activities, financial need and personal interviews. There is no heritage requirement; all high school seniors in King County are welcome to apply. Eight scholarships, ranging from $1500 to $3500, will be awarded.
Since its inception, SSCS has awarded 199 scholarships totaling over $388,000. Recipients attended our excellent Washington universities and many institutions across the USA including MIT, Harvard, Cornell, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Reed and UCLA.
If you are a high school senior and want to apply, the Swedish Club kindly provides SSCS space on their web site to access our application. To access the website and download the form, go to:swedishclubnw.org/scholarships. All applications must be postmarked by U.S. Mail no later than March 31.
Funding for scholarships is provided by generous community donors. Please consider making a tax deductible donation. Send donations to: SSCS, c/o Anita Oscarsson, PO Box 77313, Bitter Lake Station, Seattle, WA 98177. A receipt will be provided for your tax records.
