Barktoberfest benefits Auburn’s homeless, abandoned animals

There’ll be contests, demonstrations, rescue organizations, a kids zone, specialty vendors and adoptable pets.
And, of course, what would any shindig that calls itself Barktoberfest be without a plethora of pooches joining their humans for a Rover Romp 3K and 5K fun walk/run?
What’s goin’ down from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday in Roegner Park at 601 Oravetz Road SE is just the Auburn Valley Humane Society’s annual fundraising event for the homeless and abandoned animals in the Auburn community, that’s all.
And it happens to be a fun-filled day of activities for the whole family.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to get together … with their dog for a 3K or 5K walk, spend some time with vendors. There’ll be lots of goodies out there, lots of swag stuff for you and your dog,” Animal Shelter Director Phil Morgan said of the event, in its second year.
The AVHS is all about providing shelter, quality care and love for all the lost, mistreated and abandoned animals in Auburn. It uses every available resource to ensure that each animal is placed into a loving and forever home and promotes responsible pet ownership through education and outreach.
Bring your dog for the Rover Romp 3K and 5K fun walk/run and collect pledges, win prize drawings, enter the popular pet costume contest or just take in all the vendors, entertainment and food.
By so doing, you’ll raise funds for Auburn’s homeless critters.
At this time, the AVHS is looking for event sponsors, vendors for retail, services and non-profit organizations, entertainment, and donations.
For more information, contact 253-249-7849, or for a complete listing of event rules, participants may visit the shelter at 4910 A St. SE, Auburn, or go online at www.auburnvalleyhs.org.
