Valley Regional Fire Authority (VRFA) staff teamed up with the American Red Cross and City of Auburn Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members to visit more than 200 homes, talk with residents about fire safety, test smoke alarms and install alarms where needed.

More than 70 alarms were installed for those who did not have them or whose alarms were over 10 years old.

Skylark Mobile Home Parks I and II in south Auburn were canvassed on foot on two separate days.

The Auburn Area Fire Medic Campaign provided funding for part of the VRFA’s participation in the event and the American Red Cross provided smoke alarms, installation equipment and volunteers.

City of Auburn CERT members and VRFA staff helped with the canvassing and installation efforts.

The partnership came together as a result of the American Red Cross nationwide preparedness campaign to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent within five years.
