Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters quickly contained and doused a brush fire in south Auburn on Monday afternoon.
The VRFA responded to a report around 2:15 p.m. of vegetation on fire on a hillside at the Belara Apartments on Terrace View Lane. Neighbors reported seeing juveniles with fireworks.
When fire crews arrived the fire was approximately 200-by-200 feet in size and spreading up a steep hillside.
Crews from East Pierce Fire & Rescue, King County Fire District 44 and King County Fire District 20 assisted the VRFA from the bottom of the hill at the Belara Apartments and up top to keep the fire away from homes.
KIRO Chopper 7 was in the air above the fire and relayed what they were seeing to command staff until King County Guardian One arrived.
An additional brush truck from Pierce County was brought in to help mop up after the fire was 100-percent contained. Crews will remain on scene through the evening to mop up hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The VRFA encourages citizens to be extra cautious. Although Auburn has had some cooler days in the last week and small amounts of rain, vegetation continues to be very dry.
