For the Reporter

Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighters put out a large brush fire near the Auburn Adventist Academy Air Field late Monday afternoon.

Around 5:16 p.m. neighbors reported seeing juveniles with fireworks in the area prior to the fire. Fire crews arrived to find a 50-by-50-foot brush fire in moderate fuels that was rapidly moving up an incline toward a number of singe-family homes.

Crews from the VRFA, Kent Fire Department RFA, East Pierce Fire & Rescue, King County Fire District 44, Maple Valley Fire & Life Safety and the Renton Fire Department helped the VRFA to contain the fire to approximately five acres.

The fire was extinguished and the area overhauled. Crews remained on the scene through the evening to mop up hot spots.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The VRFA encourages citizens to be extra cautious. Although Auburn has had some cooler days in the last week and small amounts of rain, vegetation continues to be very dry.
