The King County Flood Control District is one of the parties of an agreement to restore key salmon habitat on the White River as well as reducing flooding issues in cities on the White, such as the city of Pacific.
King County Flood Control District Supervisor Pete von Reichbauer, who represents the city of Pacific, released this statement on today’s agreement:
“This agreement strengthens the effort already in place in the Flood Control District to help contain the devastation that occurred in Pacific in 2009 due to massive flooding.
“The agreement is also an opportunity to restore and promote conservation; the restoration work in this area is vital for salmon and steelhead habitat.”
The Flood Control District is responsible for the Countyline Levee Setback project, which will reduce flood risks for floodplain residents in the City of Pacific and provide significant habitat benefits along the lower White River.
The project is one of the large-scale projects included in the King County Flood Control District capital program plan. Construction on the project began this spring and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2017.
