The Soroptimist International of Auburn Club installed new officers for the coming year at a June celebration event at Café Pacific.

Janie Frasier, a senior major gifts officer at Goodwill, was installed as the 2015-2016 president. Janice Nelson, of Trillium Employment Services, was installed as president-elect.

Soroptimist International of the Americas, a global volunteer organization, works to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. There are more than 1,300 clubs in 20 countries and territories that receive help in their volunteer efforts by participating locally in programs developed and sponsored by the Soroptimist organization.

In 2011 the Soroptimist International of Auburn Club established Shelter for Sisters, a special fund to provide financial resources for women to secure permanent housing. They are currently partnering with, and have a Memorandum of Understanding with, the Auburn Food Bank, Auburn Youth Resources, and the City of Auburn – Legal Domestic Violence Victim Support.

The program is designed for women who have the means to pay monthly rent, but do not have the required move-in or up-front money for utilities an/or rental deposits. Local human service agencies were already working together to help identify funds for these women.

The club meets August through June, the first four Wednesdays of the month, from noon to 1 p.m., at the Truitt Building on the second floor in the Rainier Room, 102 W. Main St., Auburn).

Guests interested in joining the club are always welcome.
