A 40-year-old Seattle man shot and killed himself after King County Sheriff deputies were sent to the 4300 block of South 299 Street in Auburn on Thursday to investigate a suspicious person.
The man had been in front of a house for an hour, looking inside and going into the back yard, authorities and witnesses said.
When deputies arrived, they found the suspect nearby, armed with a knife. He complied with the deputy’s directions and put the knife down. Moments later, the suspect took off running and deputies chased him.
A deputy then saw the man was armed with a handgun, drew his service weapon and shot himself in the head. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he was declared dead.
The incident occurred in about three minutes, from the time deputies arrived to the broadcast over the radio of shot fired, according to authorities.
Deputies made the scene safe, and requested aid arrived in minutes.
Major crimes detectives are investigating.
