Each year before the holiday gift buying season, the White River Valley Museum mounts a juried show and sale of art by Northwest contemporary artists.
Now in its ninth year, Small Works Big Presents has attracted more than 40 artists working in a wide range of media. From oil and pastel to sculptured plaster and textile arts, the range is great. But the one thing they all have in common is their diminutive size: all pieces are 12 inches or less at their greatest dimension.
“With small scale art we find it easier for the modern collector or new art enthusiast to dive and make a purchase of fine art,” said museum director Patricia Cosgrove.
Of the 248 pieces entered, 72 made it into the show selected by a jury composed of local practicing artist Mary Ellen Bowers, arts management consultant Miguel Guillén and Green River College photography instructor Gary Oliveira.
The City of Auburn Arts Commission and 4Culture provide monetary support, making possible the $1,900 in awards presented each year.
Small Works, Big Presents: The Gift of Art is on exhibit, now through Dec. 20.
