New sidewalks, lighting, bus pull-outs, putting overhead utilities underground and removing utility poles, a cross walk at Fir Street, and U-turns at Fir and Hemlock streets and medians.

The Auburn City Council on Monday approved the $27,426 final pay estimate and accepted final construction of these pedestrian and additional improvements on Auburn Way South from Dogwood Street Southeast to Fir Street Southeast and from Fir Street Southeast to Hemlock Street Southeast.

In addition, the project replaced 1,600 feet of a 10-inch water main with a new, 12-inch main.

A combined budget contingency of $154,027 remains, and it includes additional funds associated with the Washington State Department of Transportation’s overlay and the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe’s utility undergrounding agreements.

City officials said Monday the amount is within the budget and the authorized contingency for the project.

The project also realizes a new traffic signal at Hemlock Street, storm drainage, water and sewer utility improvements, intelligent transportation system improvements, and widening of Auburn Way South between Fir and Hemlock to five lanes. That is, two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane.
