Nightly closures of SR 167 HOT lanes this weekend

For the Reporter

Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will reduce State Route 167 to one lane southbound Friday night and one lane northbound Saturday and Sunday nights to replace toll equipment.

WSDOT will also be testing toll rate signs during the Friday night closures.

The closures are as follows:

• At 11 p.m. Friday, crews will close the southbound SR 167 high occupancy toll (HOT) lane between Renton and Auburn. At midnight they will close the adjacent general purpose lane. Both lanes will reopen at 7 a.m. Saturday.

• At 10 p.m. Saturday, crews will close the northbound HOT lane between Auburn and Renton. At 11 p.m. they will close the adjacent general purpose lane. Both lanes will reopen at 8 a.m. Sunday.

• At 11 p.m. Sunday, crews will close the northbound HOT lane and the adjacent general purpose lane between Auburn and Renton. Both lanes will open at 5 a.m. Monday.

Much of the toll equipment on SR 167 was installed in 2007 and has reached the end of its planned lifespan.

On Friday night, drivers may see a variety of toll rates while the HOT lanes are closed to traffic. This is planned testing and will have no effect on customers.

During these closures, WSDOT will also perform a planned transition of the SR 167 toll system server to the same system used on the I-405 express toll lanes. This will have no effect on the I-405 express toll lanes, but will allow us to better integrate these two systems in the future.
