The Auburn Little League’s Majors A’s defeated the Federal Way National Giants 5-4 on Monday to capture the Washington District 10 Tournament of Champions for the first time since 1997.
Auburn finished the season 20-0.
“Every kid came up during crucial points in the season,” coach Brian Berkley said. “It was really good.”
Berkley said his team’s success is simple to explain. He said the team returned five players from last season, drafted well and the players got along from the start.
Of course, talent helps as well. Among the 13 players on his roster, 12 were selected for the all-star team, which begins for the 12-year-old majors on July 2 at South County Fields. Berkley said the other player would have been selected to the all-star team had he not suffered a broken arm that sidelined him for most of the season.
