Public input sought for planned Center for Arts and Culture; open house tonight

The City of Auburn seeks community input on how to convert a former landmark building into a downtown Center for Arts and Culture.
The sale of the old Post Office/Public Health building from King County to the City was recently finalized, and work to transform the historic landmark, at 100 Auburn Ave., into an active space for the arts will begin.
Residents are invited to take an online survey available at auburnwa.gov/arts or in person at tonight’s open house from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Arts & Culture Center Building, 100 Auburn Ave.
The purchase was made possible in part by the Building for Culture grant program, a joint effort of 4Culture, King County Executive Dow Constantine, and King County Council.
Signed into law just in late 2015, the unprecedented $28 million fund provides grants to 102 arts, culture and heritage projects throughout King County. As part of this grant, the City will receive $200,000 to go toward the purchase and renovation of the building and transform it into an Arts and Culture Center.
In addition to the grant, other funding and grant opportunities are being explored to be applied toward the cost of the interior renovation of the building.
