Waste Management customers donated nearly three tons of food to the Auburn Food Bank, part of its Sept. 24-28 drive.

Customers left bags of nonperishable food next to their garbage carts on collection day.

The final total was 5,984.5 pounds.

Mayor Nancy Backus took a ride-along with WM driver Mike Fingerson and had this to say in her online update: “I think we all appreciate that our garbage gets collected each week, but I doubt that we every really stop to think about what occurs to make that happen. I have a new appreciation.”
