Public open house on Lea Hill Corridor Study set for Jan. 16

To prepare for anticipated growth in the community, the City of Auburn has initiated a study of Lea Hill Road from Harvey Road/M Street NE to 124th Avenue SE.

A public open house on the Lea Hill Corridor Study is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Rainier Middle School, 30620 1116th Ave. SE, Auburn.

The goal of the study is to develop a roadway design that meets transportation and mobility goals, improves access for pedestrians and bicycles and is supported by the community.

Auburn’s Comprehensive Plan has identified the need for widening the Lea Hill corridor to accommodate projected growth. However, there are physical constraints, such as a bridge, steep slopes and wetland areas, that will make widening difficult and costly. The challenge of the study will be developing a design that adequately balances the need to keep people moving safely and efficiently with the need to manage cost and environmental impacts.

The study is funded through local funds. Future design and construction phases will be dependent on the availability of grant funding.

The public is invited to learn more about the project study area and share ideas and concerns for the corridor and meet the project team.
