Joel Garcia Nunez, a second-grader at Pioneer Elementary School, was crowned the winner of the nationwide 2019 Happy Hands (soap/sanitizer dispenser) design contest during an all-school assembly Friday, June 14.

Nunez was presented with a $300 gift card, and his school will receive a $750 donation and up to 500 manual soap/sanitizer dispensers featuring his winning design.

The Happy Hands dispenser design contest encourages frequent handwashing and reminds students about the importance of proper handwashing and the role hand hygiene plays in helping prevent the spread of germs.

The winner was chosen by online votes.
