Firefighters use Jaws of Life to free driver | Fire blotter

Between Nov. 10 and Nov. 16, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the following calls for service, among many others.
Nov. 10
Engine compartment fire: 3:11 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a vehicle fire on Auburn Way North found that a passerby had used two dry chemical extinguishers to put out most of the engine compartment fire. Firefighters used a water extinguisher to fully extinguish the remaining flames, and the vehicle’s owner arranged for towing.
Nov. 11
Vehicle accident: 1:18 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a report of a single vehicle that had struck a tree at high speed. They extricated one person from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life, and helped Auburn Police officers who were performing CPR. Airlift Northwest then transported the person to Harborview Medical Center with critical life-threatening injuries.
Aid call: 12:35 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters treated a man who was complaining of weakness and possible stroke symptoms before a private ambulance transported him to a local hospital for further care.
Nov. 12
Aid call: 11:04 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics evaluated a man who had fallen and was complaining of a decreased level of consciousness. A private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further care.
Nov. 13
Aid call: 8:13 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters evaluating a woman who was complaining of chest pain asked for paramedics. King County Medic One paramedics provided further evaluation and treatment, and then a private ambulance motored her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
Nov. 14
Vehicle vs. pedestrian: 8:49 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to reports of a man who had been struck by a box truck. Because of the critical nature of his injuries, firefighters asked for an advanced life support unit. Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics provided critical care on scene before paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center.
Nov. 15
Residential fire: 9 p.m. (Mountain View). Firefighters responded as mutual aid with Mountain View Fire to a residential fire off Green Valley Road, where they discovered that a chimney fire had extended into the structure. Firefighters used chainsaws and prying tools to access and extinguish hot spots. A King County fire investigator determined the cause was a chimney fire.
Nov. 16
Aid call: 4:53 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters evaluated a woman with tremors, and a private ambulance transported her to a local hospital.
