Fire blotter: Two critically injured people in auto accident

Between April 6 and April 12, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to the following calls for service, among many others.

April 6

Residential fire: 2:08 p.m. (Black Diamond). Firefighters, and crews from Mountain View Fire and Rescue and Puget Sound Fire, responded to a residence and found a chimney fire that had extended into the surrounding structure. Crews quickly worked to suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

April 7

Collision: 5:15 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle collision with one vehicle in a ditch and the passenger door blocked, preventing the driver from getting out. Firefighters helped the driver exit and evaluated both drivers on scene. Neither required transport to a hospital.

April 8

Outdoor smoke investigation: 4:03 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to reports of smoke in an area found a home with green wood burning in a fireplace, which was producing excessive smoke.

April 9

Aid call: 9:08 a.m. (Algona). Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics responded to a public building where a middle-aged man was suffering from chest pain. Firefighters determined the man required further care and medical transport. The patient was treated on scene and transported by paramedics to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

April 10

CPR: 8:13 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a nursing home to help an ill senior citizen and found a woman without a pulse and not breathing, so the call was upgraded to a CPR response. Firefighters and King County Medic One paramedics provided life-saving care on scene, and an ambulance transported the woman to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for further treatment.

April 11

Auto accident with extrication: 1:13 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters, rescue specialists and King County Medic One paramedics arrived at the scene of a high-speed collision involving an SUV and a concrete wall where they found two critically injured patients and removed the roof of the vehicle to safely extricate them. Both patients were treated on scene and paramedics transported them to Harborview Medical Center for further care.

April 12

Aid call: 7:20 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated and treated a woman who had fallen for possible knee and arm injuries and applied splints to help prevent further injury. A private ambulance transported the woman to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
